As a Risk Manager for the City, you will be responsible for protecting the City's financial and tangible assets from losses by managing workers' compensation, insurance, and loss control programs including property/casualty, and by providing safety and risk management programs to promote a safe environment for employees and citizens.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develops, implements, and manages the workers' compensation, safety, and other loss control programs including claims administration services with third-party administrators.
  • Maintains and updates information for insurance coverage all schedules of city-owned property, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Adjust and oversee adjudication of claims filed against the City to determine whether the City is liable for losses sustained.
  • Attends hearings and/or trials to represent the City in quasi-judicial hearings and investigations; negotiates settlements where appropriate.
  • Manages loss control and occupational health activities by reviewing and analyzing losses and claim activity reports, determining appropriate responses and future preventive measures or training support activities.

If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have previous knowledge of risk management principles and procedures and skills in understanding and interpreting laws, rules, and regulations relating to risk management.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Insurance, and/or related field.
  • 5+ years' progressively responsible experience in risk management and workers compensation, preferably city government. Experience must include supervisory experience, one (1) year experience as Risk Manager in a municipal environment, and two (2) years experience in claims adjusting management. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that results in acceptable proficiency levels in the above minimum qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.
  • Texas Class C driver's license is required.
  • Certification as an ARM (Associate in Risk Management) or ARM-P (Associate in Risk Management for Public Entities) is highly preferred.
