The City of Pflugerville, where quality meets life, is growing and improving every day and we are always on the lookout for outstanding individuals to join our team! Currently, we are in search of a Assistant Camp Director. See the essential duties and responsibilities below. We will be selecting applicants for this position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Organize campers and staff in a timely manner by knowing and communicating the proper attire and schedule for individual days and activities.
  • Conduct or delegate responsibility for staff and camper belongings.
  • Be on-site in park areas throughout the day as a supervisory tool, but also to provide opportunity to get to know campers and staff.
  • Be knowledgeable about the general well-being of campers.
  • Monitor counselor and camper assignments for the day.
  • Together with Camp Director and staff, plan and execute the daily programs.
  • Correct or reprimand other staff as soon as possible (with respect), for actions that put health and safety of a camper at risk.
  • Monitor counselors' activities and take responsibility for groups at appropriate times in a structured and safe fashion.
  • Check with and excuse counselors from the group as end of the day responsibilities of campers dissipate (as the number of campers drop, staff can go home in a fair rotation).
  • In the event an activity counselor is ill or their employment is terminated, lead the activity temporarily.
  • Be responsible for the welfare of each individual in the unit and do all that is professionally possible to solve problems.
  • Inform director of any camper or staff problems.
  • Assist those campers and staff who may need help fitting into camp atmosphere.
  • As appropriate, speak with campers' parents.
  • Continually discuss with director the performance of all staff and campers.
  • Formally assist in the evaluation of staff at least twice a season, or as necessary.
  • Assist in evaluating the entire camp operation with suggestions for the following season.
  • Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy.
  • Other related duties as required or assigned, including minor maintenance activities.

Education/Experience/Certification Qualifications:

Formal Education: N/A

Relatable Work Experience: Must have experience in daily operations of summer day camps, after-school camps or related activities; Must have experience planning a broad range of activities including but not limited to sports, games, arts & crafts, music and field trips.

Training (Licenses(s) and/or Certification(s): Adult and Child CPR (must be able to obtain before the start of camp); Standard First Aid (must be able to obtain before the start of camp); American Red Cross Basic Water Rescue Course

Preferred Qualifications: 1 year of experience working with children including but not limited to school, camp, and sports settings.
