Help ensure compliance with City codes and construction standards by reviewing development applications and monitoring design and construction activities.

Under the direction of the Development Engineering Director, carries out all responsibilities in accordance with established departmental policies & procedures, City codes and ordinances, and state and federal regulations. Exercises considerable judgement/initiative and applies professional knowledge and expertise to solve complex problems; interfaces extensively with external builders, engineers, architects, developers, and sub-contractors; frequently interfaces with City management and other City employees.

DUTIES

  1. Review subdivision and site development applications for compliance with City codes and construction standards and generally accepted engineering practice; inspect subdivisions as needed during construction to monitor compliance.
  2. Attend City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission meetings, as required; interface with other City and community organizations, as requested.
  3. Interpret, amend, or update codes and standards as necessary; remain current regarding developing trends and changes in federal, state, and local regulatory practices.
  4. May assist City Engineer with developing the City's annual capital improvement plan and managing capital improvement projects: provide input into cost estimates and right-of-way acquisitions; create preliminary designs; perform preliminary reviews.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted engineering practices; applicable state, city, and federal regulations/guidelines pertaining to areas of responsibility; and overall city operations.
  • Professional, administrative and technical knowledge in civil engineering design, project management, construction, and other relevant fields.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professionally effective relationships with external publics/vendors, internal management and non-management employees, and City and other government officials.
  • Effective communication (verbal and written) and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, hydrology/hydraulics computer software, and AutoCAD; ability to operate computer and other standard office equipment.

 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree, Civil Engineering.
  • 0 to 4 years' experience in civil engineering, preferably within a municipal or county government and with emphasis in utility, street, and drainage projects.
  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license and good driving record.
