Develops and implements the City's Senior Activity Center programs to effectively and efficiently meet community needs.


  1. Evaluate program effectiveness and efficiency to meet departmental goals.
  2. Assists in scheduling and booking of events/trips.
  3. Provide programming in a wide variety of subjects for this age-group.
  4. Modify classes and programs to accommodate individuals with a variety of abilities and disabilities.
  5. Enforces rules/regulations concerning the use of facility.
  6. Compiles data/information for monthly financial reports.
  7. Collaborate with other organizations to plan and develop programs and activities or improve coordination of existing services.
  8. Assists in the development of short/long range plans for this group.
  9. Conduct needs assessment within this group.
  10. Will occasionally drive the members of this group to various activities.
  11. Other related duties as required or assigned, including minor maintenance activities.


Knowledge of:

  • Senior citizen programming-philosophies, principles and practices;
  • Community resources available for older adults;
  • Principles and methods of planning and organizing recreation programs for older adults;
  • Individual and group behaviors.

Skills in:

  • Strong oral and written communication;
  • Handling multiple tasks and prioritizing;
  • Using computers and related software;
  • Problem solving, planning, and organizing.

Ability to:

  • Work with frequent interruptions and changes in priority;
  • Design, create, market and promote programs;
  • Work well with older adults;
  • Work flexible hours, including some evenings and week-ends;
  • Obtain required certifications within 3 months of hire date;
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public;
  • Interact in a professional, respectful, and ethical manner at all times.

Two-year's experience as a recreation leader or experience in a public or private recreation program involving the planning, scheduling, implementation and supervision of recreation programs for senior citizens;

     Or successful completion of college level course work in recreation, gerontology, or a related field;

     Or equivalent combination of experience and training.

Able to obtain certification in CPR, AED, First Aid, and obtain a CDL w/passenger endorsement.

Must be comfortable driving a 14-passenger, 42 passenger, and a 56 passenger Propane Bus.

This position will require varied time requirements, including afternoons, evenings, and some week-end times.

This position will require certification in: CPR, First Aid, AED as well as a CDL with passenger endorsement.

Must have experience in Leadership/Supervision of others within this age-group.

Must have the knowledge, experience, and know-how to enhance the quality of life for our senior participants.
